DIY SOAPSTONE – Franklin edge

Posted on February 5, 2015March 24, 2015 by admin

If you’re the type that likes to “diy” your soapstone countertops. But you’re nervous how the edge will turn out. There is such thing as called an organic, imperfect edge; its called a “Franklin Edge”. Its basically a handrubbed, made to look antique & worn. So if you dont mind this look, or prefer it; then you should be rest assured that your soapstone counter edge will have this look, if its the worst that it will get :-)

The more pillowed/rounded the edge is, the less likely it is to avoid chips & nicks. Scott Seuren, founder of Bucks County soapstone says, “its kind of like a waterfall was beating on a rock for 500 years.”

We have customers buy a whole slab and have the stone fabricator, located right next door cut it to size; or at least cut the slab in half. That way its a whole lot easier/lighter to transport. They also lend you “A” frames, so you can transport it upright. If you don’t want to borrow & return theirs, here is a quick diagram on how to make an “A” frame yourself, out of plain ol’ 2 x 4’s.
